Sheffield United left it late to beat neighbours Rotherham United in the Johnstone Paint Northern Section second round tonight.

Ched Evans scored in the 97th minute to deflate the home support in the east of Sheffield.

United, who have just dropped four places in the League One rankings to sixth, were in the match courtesy of a 2-1 win over Burton back in August.

Having lost three out of their last four games, Blades fans had been looking for a tonic at the Don Valley stadium.

And they got it - thanks to Evans.

Rotherham United had suffered some form slippage too. of late. They had lost two and drawn two of their last four, leaving them in eighth in League Two.

The last thing they would have wanted is to go behind to an early goal.

But that’s what happened on nine minutes, when Blades’ Lancastrian striker Chris Porter opened the scoring.

But the Millers hit back on 69 minutes when Alex Revell levelled.

Millers suffered a blow when Mark Bradley went off with what looked like a dislocated shoulder.

And they were left sickened by the late, late winner by the Blades’ striker Evans.
