When they get round to sorting out Rotherham united’s goal of the season, then the two from James Tavernier last Saturday are sure to figure on any shortlist.
It’s not unknown for a full back to strike a wonder goal.
Usually, it’s a one-off from distance which flies into the top corner. You might say a case of hit-and-hope rather than judgement and it might be his one for the season.
The difference here is that Tavernier’s goals are more than one-offs.
The double which sorted out the 2-1 win over Bristol City (who might very well be a force next season judged on what we saw) took his tally to five from 20 appearances - and that’s the sort of ratio any midfielder would be very happy with and, quite possibly, most wide players.
