There could not be a more appropriate place for Matt Tubbs to get off the mark for Rotherham United than today’s game at Crawley.

It was there that Tubbs - having been snapped up from Salisbury City for just £50,000 when Steve Evans was manager at Crawley - made a significant mark, scoring 49 goals in 65 appearances for them.

It led to a big money move to Bournemouth but with no promise of a regular start this season, he joined the Millers on loan and has had a total of 160 minutes in three appearances but without a goal.

“They’ll come,” said Millers boss Evans, “but the lad had no pre-season games because of injury and it will take him just a little while to get up to speed. But that first goal will come very soon, there’s no doubt about that.”

Ex-Millers striker Richie Barker is Crawley boss.
