The quest to boost Rotherham United’s fitness levels sees boss Steve Evans split his first-team squad in two today.
The Millers are renowned for their conditioning, and Evans wants 90-minute workouts in the sun for his players this afternoon.
Some of his main men travel to Tamworth for a 3pm friendly, with others making the shorter trip to Parkgate for a match which kicks off a 2pm.
Evans said: “We’re looking forward to two key matches as our pre-season efforts to get ready for the first game at Derby County in the Championship continue.
“The objective is to ensure that the majority, but not all, of the players involved from the start get 90 minutes.”
“As much as football is always about results, at this stage I would be delighted if a lot of the players got 90 minutes under their belts and everyone reported to training on Sunday morning unscathed from Saturday’s events.”
New striker Matt Derbyshire has his first run-out in Millers colours, at Parkgate, after shaking off a slight injury. Febian Brandy, Robert Milsom and Frazer Richardson miss out.
Evans will make a late decision on which match to attend.
Team at Parkgate: Collin, Rowe, Arnason, Wood, Skarz, Rose, Green, Frecklington, Hall, Revell, Derbyshire.
Team at Tamworth: Loach, Brindley, Morgan, Broadfoot, Sadler, Newton, Greening, Tidser, Pringle, Bowery, Agard.
