ROTHERHAM United manager Steve Evans praised his side for a “fantastic effort” at League Two leaders Gillingham.
“We’re disappointed with the defeat, naturally, but what a fantastic effort the boys put in and a side who’ll be champions know they have been in a game,” said Evans after the 1-0 defeat at the Priestfield Stadium.
“In terms of effort, passion and commitment, they could have given no more - the second half was a really big effort because we dominated the division’s top team on their own pitch in the second half.
“We have been thwarted by a world class save and then a penalty decision which was as clear a penalty as you will see but he’s not given it.
“Dan Kearns was clearly fouled and, anywhere else on the pitch and it’s a penalty.
“In fact, it was as blatant a penalty as I’ve seen for a while.”
