CHRIS Wilder has paid Rotherham United the ultimate compliment by labelling his old club the best team in League Two.

Having watched the Millers thump his Oxford United side 4-0 on Tuesday, Wilder believes Steve Evans side, who are fourth in the division, are superior to the present top two Gillingham and Port Vale.

The former Rotherham defender said: “We have played three top sides and I think Rotherham are the best of the lot.

“I would think Steve (Evans) will be a little bit disappointed not to be a little bit higher up in the league with the players they have got because they have got Championship quality.

“We made it a bit easier for them in that 15 minutes of the first half and they punished us harshly. When you let good players have a four goal lead it’s difficult to contain.

“They punished us and if you look through their side they have some players who shouldn’t be anywhere near this league.”

Evans, meanwhile, has revealed defender Claude Davis was taken off after 51 minutes as a pre-cautionary measure after sustaining a knee injury in the first half.

He said: “He blocked a challenge in the first half and he felt a couple of little twinges in his knee.

“He’s really at the top of his game at the minute.”
