Wembley hero Adam Collin knew that he would have to fight for his place next season in The Championship and now knows that challenging him will be one-time England U21 goalkeeper Scott Loach.

The 26-year-old ‘keeper joined Rotherham United yesterday as he seeks to resurrect his career in the second tier having made just eight appearances last season for his boyhood club Ipswich Town.

Loach, who had a boom start to his career at Watford for whom he made over 160 appearances, has not been a regular at Ipswich in his two years there and player and club came to an agreement over the final year of his contract.

Now he comes in to the Championship new boys to challenge Collin who saved two penalties in the club’s penalty shoot-out win in the League One Play-0ff Final. Collin was the only senior keeper after Scott Shearer was released.

Millers goalkeeping coach Andy Dibble has watched Loach who was the Watford goalkeeper for the infamous ‘ghost goal’ incident in 2008 when the ball went for a corner but the referee incorrectly gave a goal to Reading instead.

He is the third signing with others expected soon.
