New Rotherham United signing Zak Vyner is chomping at the bit to show what he is capable of in the Championship.
The 21-year-old became Paul Warne’s third summer signing when he joined on a season-long loan from Bristol City today.
Blackpool duo Clark Robertson and Kyle Vassell joined the ranks at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Friday and Warne’s squad is beginning to take shape early in the window.
Vyner signed a new three-year deal at the Robins on Friday and the player sees the Championship as the next step in his budding career after impressive loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Plymouth Argyle in the past two seasons.
The defender, who can play at either centre-back or right-back, said: “I’ve signed a new deal back there (Bristol) and the natural progression was to go out and get regular game time in the Championship. Rotherham have given me the chance to do that so I’m really happy.
“There was a point last season where I felt I was ready to play in the Championship and I just want to show that now.
“I met the manager and Hammy (first-team coach Matt Hamshaw) and there was a clear direction and pathway the club had. It was the right fit for me.
“It’s encouraging to hear when someone says: ‘I had three loan signings last year and they played the majority of the season.’ That’s something you want to hear.
“He [Warne] seems like a really good guy, he seems like a really good manager. As young players we need an opportunity, a chance and I feel like we’re going to get that here.”
The promising player progressed through the youth system at Ashton Gate and has already played a handful of games in the Championship under Lee Johnson.
Last term, Vyner won the Young Player of the Year award at Argyle after 17 appearances for the Pilgrims.
Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak is expected to return to the Millers on loan after being first choice during the League One promotion-winning campaign.
Rotherham’ first home pre-season friendly will be against League Two Grimsby Town on Friday July 20, kick-off 7.45pm.
