The home game against Sheffield United was the priority glance for Rotherham United fans when the fixtures came out yesterday but manager Steve Evans would have looked for something else.
Notably the games against his former club Crawley Town, now managed by ex-Millers striker Richie Barker.
Well, Evans won’t have to wait long at all for a return to the west Sussex club he left to join the Millers in April last year. It’s the second away game, August 17.
The clash with the Blades comes early too - they are at the New York Stadium on September 7.
It will certainly be the centre of attention in South Yorkshire that day - it is international weekend which means no games in the top two divisions.
The Millers can hardly grumble that their return to League One will be away from home (at Crewe).
For the past five seasons Rotherham have started with a home game. All four seasons at the Don Valley Stadium began with a home game and, last season, Rotherham asked the Football League if they could open with a game at the New York Stadium on their return to the town.
Ronnie Moore will be back in town on Tuesday, October 22 - that’s when they entertain Tranmere Rovers.
It’s Christmas away - at Bradford on Boxing Day then at Port Vale on the Sunday.
