Rotherham United boss Steve Evans admitted his side may have paid the price for for their Herculean weekend effort in their midweek defeat at Reading.
The Millers lost 3-0 in Berkshire, three days after playing for more than an hour with 10 men against Middlesbrough and taking the game to their high-flying visitors for much of the second half.
“I was concerned about the tiredness of the 10 players.” he said.
Rotherham fell behind in the first half when an error by centre-half Kari Arnason presented Jamie Mackie with a chance.
Evans added: “Tiredness is no excuse for Kari to make the mistake he makes. And it’s not like the big man. I’ve not seen him make many errors.
“Then, second half, perhaps certain bodies found themselves a little bit tired, and mentally tired, and felt a little bit sorry for themselves.
“What we’ve got to do is get back on the training ground and work hard. We’re 16 games in and we’ve let ourselves down on one occasion.”
Meanwhile, England Under-19s have named their squad for the New York Stadium clash with Italy on November 14 (KO 7.45pm). Tickets are £3 adults and £1 U-16s.
