Millers boss Steve Evans admits he “would love” to extend the loan deals of Newcastle United pair James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic until the end of the 2013/14 season.
The pair, who have featured nine times each since joining Rotherham United in late November, are set to return to Newcastle at the end of the month.
In his pre-match press briefing yesterday, Evans said he has spoken to Steve Stone, the Magpies assistant manager, regarding Tavernier and Vuckic but is waiting to get Alan Pardew’s blessing.
“Both players have made it very clear that they would like to stay,” he said. “We would love them to stay until the end of the season.
“Newcastle are a fantastic club with some fantastic players so we are hopeful that Alan [Pardew] will say yes. When he is ready to give that decision, we will get it.”
Kari Arnason is in contention to start against Crawley Town, Evans’ old club, tomorrow, having shrugged off a virus.
