Rotherham United were full of festive cheer as they bagged three priceless Championship points at Wigan Athletic.

Alex Revell headed home the winner in the 65th minute right in front of 1,543 ecstatic away supporters just a minute after Ben Watson had equalised through Ben Watson.

Tom Lawrence had given the Millers a 40th-minute lead, making the most of Andrew Taylor’s error to calmly fire the ball past ex-Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Scott Carson.

Steve Evans’ men were well worth their first victory in 10 matches as they put daylight between them and the drop zone.

On a heavy pitch, there was still plenty of evidence of their new slick passing game and they could have had-more second-half goals as they opened up the Latics defence on several occasions.

In the first half, Revell, Reece James and the impressive Emmanuel Ledesma all had chances.

For Wigan, Callum McManaman weaved past three defenders early only to be denied by Adam Collin while Ben Watson blazed wildly over from a good position.

Oriol Riera hit the bar in the dying minutes for Wigan, but an equaliser then would have been cruel luck on the Millers.
