There seemed to be a general consensus amongst Rotherham United fans as their side contemplated life back in League One after promotion.
It was that they’d be happy with a place in mid-table - being in the top half would be more than acceptable.
As the year ended, they were revising their opinions as the Millers spent Christmas and beyond in a play-off spot. It had all gone much better than most had expected.
This despite a strangely muted home record with just three home wins in the league - they’d double that number of wins away from home.
But there is no doubt they had shown they would be competitive at this level and although the squad needs strengthening, they were one of those emerging as a genuine play-off challenger. But with the second half of the season probably being tougher.
