Rotherham United remain in the Championship drop zone after a 3-0 defeat at promotion favourites Derby County.

The Millers were second best to the classy Rams and could have no complaints at the result.

First-half goals from Andreas Wiemann and Jacob Butterfield were followed by one after the break from Richard Keogh to leave Rotherham boss Neil Redfearn still looking for his first win after four games in charge.

The Millers started brightly, but Derby took the lead after seven minutes when Wiemann connected close in with Craig Forsyth's cross from the left.

Jonson Clarke-Harris was a threat for the visitors, three times forcing Derby goalkeeper Scott Carson into action before the break, but the better chances belonged to the slick-passing home side - and there were more of them.

Rotherham were guilty of giving the ball away too often, and Johnny Russell, Weimann, twice, and Bradley Johnson could have added to the Rams' advantage.

Butterfield claimed a second on the stroke of half-time with an emphatic strike from distance and Keogh wrapped up the points by rifling the ball home after 75 minutes.

Redfearn had made five changes to the side that had lost against Sheffield Wednesday, bringing in Danny Ward, Joe Newell, Joe Mattock, Kirk Broadfoot and Richard Smallwood, with Matt Derbyshire (injured), Farrend Rawson (ineligible against his parent club), Tony Andreu, Tom Thorpe and Paul Green dropping out.
