Derby joy and another cup final

WELL, that's South Yorkshire rugby bragging rights secured for a second season after our 52-15 victory at local rivals Rotherham Titans last Saturday.

It was a hugely entertaining game with the play end to end in the first half. However, in the second half the power of our pack told as we scored six tries without reply.

Our success continued on Tuesday when we beat Leeds Carnegie 29-15 at Leeds in our Yorkshire Cup semi-final. We now face Wharfedale in a repeat of last season's final which we won. We are not sure of the date of the final yet but it will probably be sometime next week at Harrogate. Please watch our website www.drfc.co.uk or local press for details.

Our Tongan international prop, Toma Toke, has been selected for his country's squad to play in this summer's Pacific Rim Tournament against the likes of the New Zealand Maoris, Australia "A", Japan, Fiji and Samoa. Well done Toma.

Some excellent news on Tuesday with the announcement that one of our former young players Michael Cusack, who moved to the RFU Academy at Leeds seven years ago at the age of 16, has signed for the Knights.

Michael has an excellent record having played for England at age group level at prop and for Leeds in the Premiership. Michael's departure to Leeds made us realise that we had to do something to stop this happening and that was when we decided to make a move into the semi-professional rugby and get up the leagues to National Division One as quickly as possible.

Michael has been signed for almost a month but we have kept it quiet until now as he did not want it announcing whilst Leeds were battling against relegation from the Premiership. Great to have you back Michael.

Don't forget Doncaster Phoenix's trip to Twickenham on Saturday, May 10 for their EDF Junior Vase Final against Castleford.

If you want to book a ticket and a seat on one of the coaches that are going down, please contact the club on 01302 831388 as soon as possible. Mario, the Castle Park mouse, and his muse Martin Haythorne, will be there so why not join them.

This weekend is our last home game of the season when we entertain seconnd place Exeter and the squad are determined to avenge their defeat away just before Christmas.

It's going to be a very busy day at Castle Park with 190 supporters sitting down for our traditional end-of-season lunch and sponsors in three other rooms.

RJ Cadman Construction are our match sponsors with associate sponsors being 900 Communication, HI Weldricks, Carlsberg UK, Pacey and Wheatley, Perrys, and Fuller, Smith and Turner.

Thanks to these companies and all the others who have supported us throughout the past season.

Season tickets for next season are now on sale from the club office or application forms can be obtained by ringing 01302 831496.

Prices have been frozen from this season so you can obtain 15 matches for the price of 10, with further discounts available if you apply before May 31.

On Sunday, our Colts, who are already the Yorkshire League champions, are away at Harrogate (KO 2pm) against York in the Yorkshire Colts Cup.
