Rotherham United receive boost as Freddie Ladapo is set to face Derby County

The club's record signing missed last week's FA Cup tie at Everton with a groin problem, but returned to training at the start of this week.

Ladapo's fitness provides a key boost to boss Paul Warne, who is preparing for a pivotal game in the club's fight to beat the drop.

“It is not really serious,” Warne said of Ladapo's injury. “It was the fact that we had this opportunity to take the rest because it was becoming more and more frustrating for him. “He has done loads of work with the physios this week, he had an injection and had a couple of days off.

“There is no massive drama, I thought you were going to ask if there was a big money move, all the fans will have seen him not on the bench and think he has left.

“To my knowledge he hasn't and he will be in the training ground as normal.”

The Millers will head to Pride Park on Saturday boosted by a spirited performance at Goodison Park, where they went down to an extra-time defeat to the Premier League side.

Warne was enthused by the performance but says now is the time to deliver in the Championship.

“I can take the positives only if we back it up. We were excellent against Bristol City, thoroughly deserved to win, we were excellent against Blackburn and very unlucky to lose and the Barnsley one doesn't count.

“I really believe in this group, I always have, they give me everything they have got and if nothing else we can now give the league a good run.

“I didn't want the lads to get on the bus and think they have got life sussed and that we will be OK.

“The league will be a different game to Everton, this was a life experience for them, it was an honour to play at this great stadium, but it is back to business and we need to back it up with some real good performances in the next 20 games to try and retain our status.”
