Rotherham United: Paul Warne not planning on recalling loan trio in January

Jerry Yates, Jamie Proctor and Matty Palmer are out on loan at Swindon, Scunthorpe and Bradford respectively.

Yates has been having the best time of it, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances as the Robins launch a League Two promotion bid.

Proctor has one goal in 11 for the Iron while Palmer has played 12 times for Bradford.

Richie Wellens’ side are desperate to keep Yates for the entire season and it looks like they could get their wish as Warne looks set not to trigger the January recall option, particularly if he gets reinforcements of his own.

“All the players who are out on loan are out to play games,” the boss said. “I’ll assess the situation later in the month, but they may stay out if we get others in.”

Wellens says he is in dialogue with Warne, but that it is too early for a definite decision.

“We are in contact on a regular basis with parent clubs but, at the moment, it is December and we can’t do anything,” the Swindon boss said. “All the players that I have spoken to all want to stay, which is the main thing.”

Meanwhile, Warne is expecting to keep on-loan goalkeeper Daniel Iversen in January.

Iversen has been a key player for the Millers this season, making 22 appearances on loan from Leicester.

Some performances might have caught the eye of higher-placed clubs but Warne thinks the Foxes will keep him in South Yorkshire.

“I understand why other clubs would want him,” he added. “If an amazing club came in for Dan then Leicester might think that it would do him good to go there.

“But I think Leicester are really pleased with how he’s playing here and the situation he’s in. He’s playing every week.

“More often than not, clubs don’t move their goalkeepers about too much. They are quicker to move strikers. I don’t foresee Dan leaving. I’ve heard nothing from Leicester.”

Warne has been impressed with all of his loanees – Dan Barlaser, Carlton Morris and Jake Hastie – but knows he is at the mercy of their parent clubs.
