Rotherham United will have to wait for another week to get Joe Mattock back in their side.

The experienced left-back is laid low with a back injury picked up at Gillingham a fortnight ago and he is not ready to play against Accrington on Saturday.

He is doing some running and seeing a chiropractor and Warne expects him to be involved for next week's visit to MK Dons.

“Joe Mattock is struggling,” boss Paul Warne said. “His straight line running is fine, it's just the whole twisting motion of whipping a ball in, which is his strength unfortunately, so it is just a lot of chiropractor treatment.

“He can straight line run all day. He won't be able to be involved this weekend, but I have been led to believe that by this time next week he should be back in full training.”

Warne could also have Kyle Vassell back next week after the forward returned to full training following his calf problem.

Vassell was on the verge of returning from a hamstring injury suffered in August when he went down again, but the Millers boss has been impressed with his player in training.

“Vass trained on Thursday, a his first full real session with the group which is good,” he said.

“It is too soon to include him which is disappointing because he was the best player in training again which has been a trend.

“I need to get him on the pitch really so he can show what he can do.

“He keeps telling me what a great 10 he is so we will have to wait and see.

“He got through training OK and we are really pleased so hopefully we will get a good week into him next week and by the end of that we can make a better decision on him.”

The Millers will be without Trevor Clarke due to an ankle injury, but Warne is hopeful the left-sided youngster can join up with Republic of Ireland Under-21s next week.

“I really hope he is able to join the group and play and that makes him available for me next week,” he said.

“Hopefully for me that will taker place, but I honestly do not know, it is a flip of a coin.”

Richard Wood is out with a hamstring injury, as the Millers try and chase a first home win since September.
