Boss Paul Warne has been desperate to add to his squad as he tries and masterminds a relegation escape act in the Championship and brings Giles in on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old has spent the first half of the season on loan at Coventry, but Wolves triggered a recall option as the Sky Blues have too many loan players in their squad.

It allowed Warne to finally get his hands on a player he has been eyeing for some time.

“He's a player we've liked for a couple of years,” he said. “He's someone I've tried to sign before.

“He's a left wing-back. He can play left-back or left wing but I think left wing-back is his best position.

“He's played 40-odd games. He's quick and direct and puts crosses into the box. He's got a good footballing brain and has a bit of experience in this league having played 19 times in it this season for Coventry.

“We are playing with wing-backs and have recently let Billy Jones go so we needed a bit more strength in that position. He's a good addition for us.”

With the Millers now adopting a back three with wing-backs, Giles is the perfect fit.

“As a full-back, he's a little bit like Trev (Clarke), I suppose. More attacking than Joe Mattock. More of a winger than a full-back,” Warne added.

“Wing-back is the perfect position for him. The way we want to get crosses into the box, he definitely suits us.

“Most of the players we sign have a bit of versatility because we do change the system and ask people to play out of position. He can play anywhere down that left side.”

The Millers are back in action for the first time since last Tuesday when they visit Middlesbrough on Wednesday night.
