Warne further enriched himself into club folklore on Wednesday night when he became the first Millers manager since Jimmy McGuigan in 1976 to beat Sheffield Wednesday at home in the league.

A first-half blitz against the 10-man Owls earned a 3-0 win, with goals coming from Jamie Lindsay (2) and Dan Barlaser.

That follows the six promotions he has won at the club – two as a player, two as a coach and two as a manager – meaning he is a popular figure.

And now the 47-year-old wants a permanent reminder of what he has delivered.

“If they haven't started the statue it is getting beyond a joke,” Warne joked after his side’s emphatic victory.

“I don't know what more I can do, I have written a letter, I have spoken to the chairman, what more can I do?”

The game at the AESSEAL New York Stadium was subject to a 10-minute delay early in the first half as an authorised drone flew above the stadium.

The Millers reacted best, scoring their first just moments after the restart and they never looked back.

“he referee came over to the fourth official and I thought it was one of those comms issues, they love that one. It happens all the times,” Warne added,

“They said it was because of a drone, my eyes must be like pickled onions because I couldn't see one.

“I was looking to see where it is. If you can afford to buy a drone to watch the game you can definitely afford the £10 to watch on iFollow, or Sky red button.

“I don't think drones are cheap.

“ So we came back into the dressing room and said to the lads, 'Well done, we've kept a clean sheet for four minutes, if we keep that up we will have at least a point'.

“I had a bit of comedy with them and after that the goal came quite soon and the night went quite well.”
