Paul Warne's Rotherham United confirm pre-season return date ahead of League One promotion push

Rotherham will begin their preparations for a fourth successive League One promotion push when they return to pre-season training on July 1.

The Millers suffered Championship relegation last term but have won promotion the last three times they have been in the third tier.

The squad will report back to Roundwood next Thursday and look certain to be put through a punishing programme in order to get their fitness up.

No overseas trip will be possible this season due to the ongoing restrictions because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It will be a paper-thin group that turn up as Warne tries to conduct an overhaul of his squad this summer.

Five players were released at the end of their contracts last summer, with Clark Robertson and Matthew Olosunde, who is interesting Sheffield Wednesday also moving on after rejecting new deals.

Five loanees also returned to their parent clubs and Warne has yet to make any additions to his squad.

The first pre-season friendlies have already been announced with the Millers visiting Rochdale on July 20 and then hosting Premier League Newcastle seven days later at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
