Relief for Wilson who hopes Spireites will gain confidence from FA Cup win

After losing seven straight games in all competitions, and waiting 10 games for a win, Wilson does not care the victory came against League Two’s Colchester United.

Goals from Jay O’Shea and Ched Evans secured the visitors’ spot in Monday’s second round FA Cup draw.

“Regardless of the competition we wanted to get back to winning ways,” admitted Wilson.

“The bottom line is we wanted to get through the tie.

“We’re really pleased we did that. To do that we had to put a few ghosts to bed, score a goal and win the game.

“The performance wasn’t as good as in recent weeks but the result was.

“It’s a big relief for everybody, getting a goal and getting through the tie.”

The Spireites have conceded some sloppy goals of late and they did so again as substitute Tarique Fosu-Henry was able to score with his first touch.

And Wilson was disappointed that somebody shirking their responsibilities cost a goal, again.

He fumed: “Somebody’s vacated their responsibility again.

“He was there to be picked up but we’ve left him drift in at the back post and score.”

Despite getting a positive result, Wilson played down the chances of going on an immediate winning run.

He added: “Every game is tough.

“We’ve got another tough game Tuesday which people will expect us to win followed by the big one against Sheffield United.

“From our perspective we’ve just got to try and take confidence from the win.”
