Relegation on his CV motivates Lee

Victory will seal League One safety for the Spireites, and even a draw could be good enough.

The Proact keeper said: “The beauty of football is that however bad we’ve played we’ve quickly got a chance to put that right, and we’ve got to do that.

“We’ll be stressing to everyone all week how important it is because I’ve been relegated at this club before and it’s not nice.

“It’s on your CV for the rest of your career and that’s for everyone. For the starting 11 it’s not nice, but even for the lads not involved relegation’s not nice.

Although a point may well suffice, Lee would rather aim for all three.

“We’ll be positive, as we always are,” he said.

“The gaffer and Morgs (Chris Morgan) will get us up for it. It’s a game we think we can win and we’ve got nothing to lose now.

“There’s no point trying to cling on for a draw, with a good crowd at the Proact we’ve got to do everything we can to win the game.”

The Chesterfield dressing room would have been an interesting place at full-time last Saturday, after defeat at Swindon kept them in relegation peril, Sam Hird revealing that strong words were exchanged.

But Lee not only wants to eradict bad memories from last weekend, but throughout the season, with a win in the penultimate outing of the campaign.

“We had a discussion after Swindon,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure that every one of us is as close to 100% as possible on Saturday because it’s the biggest game of our careers.

“We’re in the situation we’re in not because of Swindon or because of Sheffield United but because of the 40-odd games we’ve played up to now. We’ve got a chance to put that right, win the game and then it’s done and dusted.”
