The striker joined Danny Wilson’s Spireites on a short-term deal in February.

But he made just seven appearances for the club, all of them off the bench, and failed to open his goalscoring account.

Chesterfield released Slew along with six others at the end of the season.

The 23-year-old has failed to find form since departing Sheffield United for Blackburn in 2011.

He scored three goals in 11 games for the Blades as an 18-year-old which attracted Rovers’ attention.

The £1.1million deal didn’t quite work out however, Slew making one appearance as a substitute for Blackburn before being farmed out on loan to Stevenage, Oldham, Rotherham, Ross County and Port Vale.

His contract with Blackburn was terminated in January 2015 by mutual consent and Slew spent the next year with Cambridge United, before that stint too came to a mutually agreeable but premature end.

Slew has made 90 Football League appearances and scored seven goals.
