Question mark over Donohue's fitness before Bradford clash

The utility player is still not fully recovered from a knee injury sustained in training last Friday, when he trod on a ball.

So Danny Wilson faces a wait to find out if the youngster will be ready for the visit of Bradford City on Saturday.

“Dion is still not 100 per cent, he may be available, we’re not sure,” said the Spireites boss.

“We’ll wait on that one.”

Wilson says the advice of a specialist means the club will also exercise caution over striker Ched Evans, who has a heel injury.

“It wasn’t anything we thought was going to go on longer than it has,” he said.

“But after seeing the specialist again he thought it was too soon to ask him to come back.

“If it did happen again it could be months and months, we can’t gamble with it. We’ll take the word of the specialist and sit him down for another three or four weeks.”

Connor Wilkinson has proved a more than adequate replacement for Evans, scoring four times in three starts.

And Chesterfield may look to extend his loan beyond January.

Wilson said: “If things go well there’s an agreement in place if we want to take him after the break in January.

“The best part of his game is his technical ability. He’s got a fantastic touch.”

The manager doesn’t see the on-loan Bolton striker as the finished article just yet however.

“He gets out of situations you don’t expect him to but he can overcook it at times, said Wilson.

“He does what a lot of wingers do and beats a man, then another and another and can then lose the ball.

“That’s a part of game he has to learn but he’s still only a young boy.”

Tomorrow’s game at the Proact will see Bradford City put their 2016/17 League One unbeaten streak on the line.

And the manager of the side who ended Northampton’s 31-game run is expecting another tough encounter.

“It’s very similar to Northampton, although the run Bradford have had unbeaten is not significantly like Northampton,” he said.

“It’s a similar test, they’re very resilient, they’ve got a bit of quality in the team, they’ve got good depth.

“Stuart (McCall, Bradford boss) is the fabric of the club, all the good things that have happened to them generally he’s been a part of it.

“He’s done very well, he’s very experienced and knows his onions.”
