If, as expected, David Weir is appointed Sheffield United’s new manager later this week, his first task will be to sign off his new club’s schedule of summer friendlies.
Members of Bramall Lane’s football department have pieced together a provisional list of matches which, as The Star revealed last month, includes a 10-day tour of Scotland followed by a series of fixtures against domestic opposition.
But, although it is unlikely that Danny Wilson’s successor will demand any major changes, United have acknowledged the programme could still be tweaked.
“Upon the appointment of a new manager, this provisional list will be confirmed and alterations are possible,” a spokesperson said.
United have confirmed much of their preparations for the 2013/14 campaign will be based north of the border.
Games against Greenock Morton (July 3), Cowdenbeath (July 6) and Raith Rovers (July 10) will be followed by friendlies against Bury (July 13), Mansfield Town (July 20) and York City (July 27).
United, whose players report for training on Wednesday June 26, return to competitive action on August 3.
The new fixture list will be unveiled on Wednesday June 19 at 9am.
