POLL RESULTS: Is optimism on the rise? Do the fans back the boss? Who'll get the goals?
Optimism is on the rise at the Proact ahead of the new season, according to a Derbyshire Times poll.We asked Town fans a range of questions to get a flavour of the mood around Chesterfield FC, just days before the big kick-off.
Just under a third of the hundreds who voted expect Chesterfield to earn automatic promotion from League Two, with a further 10 per cent predicting a title win.
Eighteen per cent believe the Spireites will go up through the play-offs, while only two per cent can see a relegation on the horizon.
Among those who don’t believe Chesterfield will win the league, Luton and Coventry were both heavily tipped.
Despite last season’s relegation and awful record, boss Gary Caldwell has evidently impressed fans with his summer signings and pre-season plans – he’s been backed as the right man for the job by 78 per cent of those polled.
And a whopping 83 per cent want to see Ian Evatt wearing the captain’s armband again.
Just under two thirds of fans polled believe Chris O’Grady will make the biggest impact of the new signings, and 41 per cent predict he’ll be the club’s top goalscorer.
Around four out of five fans say Tommy Lee will win the battle to be Town’s first choice goalkeeper.
And 50 per cent voted Joe Rowley as the youngster most likely to make an impact for the first team, with Charlie Wakefield backed by 38 per cent.
