Stocksbridge Park Steels’ Bracken Moor ground is well on course to be ready for the start of the coming season which gets under way on Saturday, August 17.

The pitch at the Evo-Stik Premier Division club was taken up at the end of last season and underwent intensive work before being re-seeded.

It’s all part of a major redevelopment of the Bracken Moor facilities that includes upgrading the club’s pitches opposite the main stadium and car parking area.

The cost of the project, in the region of £300.000, is being funded by grants from the Football Foundation and Sport England, with Stocksbridge having to raise £50.000 of their own money that saw the club launch their ‘Pitch In’ appeal.

The latest fund-raising event added to the calendar is a Golf Day at Stocksbridge G.C on Friday, September 13 with teams of four costing £25 per person. Further information can be obtained from the club or by contacting Ian Cavanagh on 07785 616976.

Meanwhile, Northern Counties East League Parkgate have appointed Steve Adams as their new manager. Adams was youth team manager at Stocksbridge before moving to take charge of Maltby Main at the start of the 2008/09 season. He then took over at Winterton Rangers in November 2012 but resigned after just two months.

Adams replaces Russ Eagle who left to take charge at Worksop Parramore.
