Owls draw could pull in the money

SHEFFIELD Wednesday have made a worse start to this season than they did last, recording two losses in as many games and conceding seven goals in the process.

They could do without a trip then to one of Betdaq’s favourites for the Champion-ship at 9/1, Charlton Athletic, who are 8/11 with Stan James to inflict a third straight defeat on the Owls.

Brian Laws’ men however, will take heart from the fact that the Addicks are still themselves without a win and while only the brave will be taking on VCBet’s 4/1 for an away success, there is some logic to a modest flutter on the draw at 13/5 (Portlandbet) and indeed a 1-1 scoreline at 6/1 with Blue Square.

More circumspect Wednes-day supporters of course, could be forgiven for wanting to cover a couple of bases and they can do so with Stan James who post 10/11 against Laws’ boys managing a win or a draw, although despite the cautious nature of such a bet it still allows scope for a small stake on an Owls attacker in the first scorer betting; where Leon Clarke catches the eye at 9/1 (bet365).

Sheffield United are also winless after two games and they too take on a promotion candidate this weekend, in the shape of West Brom. Home advantage however, means the Blades are SportingBet’s 5/4 favourites to snare a maximum haul with the Baggies chalked up by Portlandbet at 9/4 to do likewise.

A clash between two of the perceived divisional heavyweights, this one is bound to see the draw well backed at 11/5 with Coral.co.uk, however, the fact that the visitors lost at Burnley in their only away game suggests United can edge it and subsequently a 2-1 scoreline in their favour catches the eye at 17/2 (Extrabet) in the correct score market.

James Beattie meanwhile is likely to attract healthy trade at 6/1 (Coral.co.uk) to notch the opener.

Barnsley recorded a creditable draw at Colchester last Saturday and they could be in line to grab a share of the spoils tomorrow as they host a resilient Plymouth side at Oakwell.

The Tykes are 11/8 with William Hill to claim all three points, and plenty of home supporters will like the look of that price, but with Argyle a tough side to beat it’s the draw at 23/10 (Betdaq) that stands out, with those seeking to more specific well advised to speculate on VCBet’s 14/1 for the fixture to finish two apiece.

At 4/6 (William Hill) Doncaster appear to be a home banker as they prepare to host Bournemouth. The visitors have yet to score this season meaning Rovers are good value to keep a clean sheet and a 2-0 home win therefore stands out at 7/1 (Coral.co.uk).

Finally in League Two; SportingBet’s 10/3 outsiders Chesterfield can snatch a point (5/2, Extrabet) at Peterborough while Rotherham, a 2/1 shot with Stan James, also look good for a draw (9/4, Blue Square) at Stockport.
