Outspent

BARNSLEY'S finances are a fraction of at least one of their big rivals, it has been disclosed.

Speaking to supporters, chairman Gordon Shepherd said that West Brom's wages bill "is three times our turnover".

He added: "It is a juggling act squeezing a profit out of this club."

Barnsley will announced that they made money when the next official accounts for the last financial year are revealed.

Season ticket revenue has increased this season, Shepherd said, but he also dismissed a rumour which claimed the West Stand would close within two years.

Meanwhile, manager Simon Davey has reported no firm interest in want-away goalkeeper Nick Colgan.

The 34-year-old is with the Republic of Ireland squad for European Championship qualifiers against Germany and Cyprus at Dublin's Croke Park.

Barnsley's Grant McCann is with the Northern Ireland players heading for Sweden next week and Lewin Nyatanga is likely to win his 16th cap for Wales in Cyprus on Saturday.

Barnsley striker Kim Christensen is being tipped to make his first start for Barnsley when the Championship resumes on October 20 with a home game against Burnley.

The Dane who scored his first goal for the club after coming off the bench at Charlton is taking nothing for granted.

"Anything can happen. We just have to keep going," he said.

"It will be difficult for us to keep going against some very big teams, but we will continue to work hard.

"We have had a good start which became a fantastic start with a point at Charlton."
