OPINION: Outrage, despair, embarrassment and just one bright spot

In one season, two different Chesterfield managers have seen their side lose and concede three to Rochdale.

It’s fair to say Rochdale are better than us.

Frankly the first half was embarrassing and it was lucky that Keith Hill let his Dale team take their foot off the gas for the second 45 minutes.

It’s very nice of Gary Caldwell to claim that Dale are a model club, perhaps he should have spotted that Chesterfield are in turmoil behind the scenes when he joined.

His comments in the Derbyshire Times about how Rochdale’s owner backs the manager are obviously a statement of intent about how he’d like to run things at the Proact.

Caldwell’s one current saving grace is ironically the club can’t afford to give him the elbow.

Played 13 won one is an awful record in anyone’s book, without a mass clearout of players, most of us can’t see the current squad doing anything in League Two.

One win so far in Gary’s tenure is being met with a variety of emotions from outrage to complete despair from supporters.

Players look unsure about what they are supposed to be doing, the only crumb of comfort is that the team went to four at the back in the second half.

We all know that mangers have to be the boss but consistently doing something that doesn’t work, such as playing a back three, doesn’t make sense any more.

Quotes from fans on the message board include: “That first half today was the worst, utterly lacklustre performance I’ve ever seen from a CFC side in over 25 years of being a fan. I can’t believe we are going down without a fight,” and “a 7% win rate will only get worse before the season ends.”

The only bright spots from Saturday’s humbling, was 17-year-old, Joe Rowley being drafted into the team and Kristian Dennis’ goal.

Off the field, the club remains for sale with unsurprisingly no offers anywhere near the £10million asking price.

Quotes coming from the club say we have only had enquiries from a few tyre kickers.

Dave Allen and Ashley Carson say that selling to a consortium doesn’t work.

Onwards then, to Bolton, where most fans predict a thrashing.
