One man enjoying a good run of form in Spireites' rejuvenated side is Liam O'Neil.

The summer signing from West Bromwich had a mixed start at the Proact Stadium, switching between right back and his preferred position of central midfield. He lost his place for a month but injuries to full-backs Dan Jones and Drew Talbot saw him restored to right back and his form has improved.

The 22-year-old said of the team’s overall improvement and last week’s win at Rochdale: “The team are together, it was a great win but we can’t afford to get carried away. It’s three points and we’ve got to go again this week at Wigan. The attacking lads were brilliant: it could have been three or four nil at half time but for a few decisions, but that’s football and you’ve got to just go again.”

Of his time in the back four, he added: “I’m learning every game. It’s even better when you’re winning, but it’s just good to be playing football and if the gaffer wants me to play at right-back then I will. As a member of the back four we don’t like to concede two goals but we’ll move onto the next game.”

Spireites travel to Wigan having failed to win any of the last 12 league meetings with Latics. Wigan had a great comeback earlier this season at the Proact, grabbing three goals in the final ten minutes to win 3-2.
