FORMER Sheffield United players Robert Page, Craig Short, Alan Wright and Jeff Eckhardt are set to take part in a charity football match later this month designed to help one of the club’s lifelong supporters to return home for Christmas.

Actors from Hollyoaks, EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale are also scheduled to attend the ‘Legends versus TV All Stars’ fixture at Sheffield FC on Sunday December 11 which is designed to raise money for Myoclonic Epilepsy sufferer Karl Darby.

Dave McCarthy, United’s managing director, said: “Karl is a die-hard Blades fan who attends every home game and many away matches with his father, Roy.

“We hope as many of our followers can attend the match as possible to offer their backing.”

Karl has lived in supported accommodation for the past decade but hopes to stay with his parents permanently when a specially-designed stairlift is fitted at their house.

Donations from various businesses, including Rotherham based Classic Lifts Ltd and Coda Studios, have enabled the work to get underway and the game, which kicks-off at 1.30pm, could enable it to be completed over the festive season.

McCarthy added: “Sheffield United and our fans have been working tirelessly to try and raise enough money.”
