PORTSMOUTH boss Steve Cotterill fears that David Nugent could leave in the summer after contract negotiations stalled.
Nugent, whose deal expires at the end of the season, netted his 11th goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Ipswich.
Cotterill said: “We’re not privy to what his agent is doing. He’s just not negotiating with us at this moment in time.
“I think there has been an offer made, but there hasn’t been anything coming back the other way. So he’s obviously sitting and waiting until the end of the season.” Pompey play Sheffield United on Saturday.
Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies says he has not made an approach to sign Newcastle midfielder Danny Guthrie.
Reports suggested that Forest - who play the Blades on March 8 - were poised to bring in the 23-year-old on loan as they push for promotion.
Davies admitted Guthrie was on his list of possible targets, but that was as far as the interest went.
Leicester’s play-off challenge has been dealt a blow with the news that Patrick Van Aanholt faces around a month out with a thigh strain.
The Holland U-21 international suffered the injury during the 1-1 home draw against Midlands rivals Coventry on Saturday.
Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson believes his squad is strong enough to cope with the 20-year-old’s absence.“Patrick is out for three or maybe four weeks,” Eriksson said. “That’s a pity, of course, as he has been very good for us, but I’m not looking at loans for defenders at this moment. We have options.”
