Sheffield and north Derbyshire amateur football is staying indoors this weekend.
While there had been little or no further snowfall over night nor had there been any meaningful thaw on local pitches.
Sheffield and Barnsley councils called off all council football pitches for fixtures on Friday.
Large areas of Doncaster did the same.
Sheffield and Hallamshire FA hinted at longer term issues too.
“The weather conditions experienced this week have resulted in most football pitches being snow covered therefore, it is necessary to cancel all fixtures” they confirmed.
“We have also taken into account the weather forecast, which indicates no improvement for later in the week.”
They added: “playing a fixture on an unsuitable pitch surface will cause damage which will not be possible to rectify during the season and, in certain cases, may result in the pitch being unsuitable for any further matches.”
Non-league matches to bit the dust, or rather the snow, included Sheffield FC v Goole, Stocksbridge Park Steels v Stafford Rangers and Buxton v Ramsbottom United.
Others falling victim to the winter: Athersley Recreation v Shaw Lane Aquaforce, Cleethorpes Town v Worksop Town, Glasshoughton Welfare v Staveley Miners Welfare, Heanor Town v Armthorpe Welfare, Liversedge v Retford United, Maltby Main v Barton Town Old Boys, Hallam v Penistone Church, Rossington Main v Selby Town, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic v Pontefract Collieries and Handsworth Parramore v Shirebrook Town.
