Stocksbridge Park Steels boss Chris Hilton says he is still looking to bring in another couple of players before the Evo-Stik East Division opener against Stamford at Bracken Moor on Saturday, August 18.

Steels have drawn both their last two pre-season warm up games 1-1 at Nostell MW then Parkgate on Monday with Scott Ruthven scoring both goals.

“I’m pretty happy with what we’ve got but I’m still looking to bring in a couple of other players, “ said Hilton.

Hilton has so far brought in striker Aaron Moxam, winger Tyler Williams along with Kane Swinburn, Brad Beatson and Kurtis Turner, who retuned for a second spell with the club. We have to give the new players time to settle,” said Hilton.

“It could take a week or six months for them to click but we have. It is now about how hard myself , Lee (Thompson), Ryan ( Laight) and Shaun (Handisides) work the lads in training.”

Penistone Church continued their build up to the forthcoming NCE League season with a goalless draw at AFC Emley.

“It was a good workout with plenty of positives to take out of the game,” said Church boss Ian Richards.

“It was nice to get our first clean sheet of the season, while Brett Lovell came through 30 minutes unscathed following a back problem. Ryan Smith, Ryan Johnson and Tom Brennan all got 90 minutes under their belts after returning from holiday. Everything is moving in right direction as we build up the the first game of the season against Handsworth Parramore in just over a week’s time.”

Meanwhile, Penistone entertain Buckfield Athletic on Saturday (2.30) in the Toolstation Charity Cup.

It is the fifth year the pre-season fixture has taken place between representatives of the NCEL and Western League who are both sponsored by Toolstation with this years nominated charity being the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Sheffield FC youngster Alfie Eagle has earned himself a two-week trail with Rotherham United after impressing the Championship side in a recent pre-season friendly.

The 16-yaer-old defender is one year into a two-year football education scholarship on the Sheffield FC/ Maltby Main Trust programme. He made his first start for Club a fortnight ago earning rave rave reviews for his performance in a 2-1 win against Penistone Church.

Meanwhile, Sheffield have returned home from their trip to Germany where they helped SV Lipsia Eutritzsch celebrate their 125th birthday..

The two teams fought out a 3-3 draw. Club took an early 2-0 lead with Daz Winter opening the scoring on 16 minutes following a well worked short corner. Summer signing Marc Newsham added the second five minutes later knocking in the rebound after the home keeper had done well to keep out Waide Fairhurst’s volley.

SV got one back just before the break but Sheffield restored the two goal cushion early in the second half with Newsham getting his second from Andy Gascoigne superb through ball.

However, the hosts got one back midway through the half before grabbing the equaliser ten minutes from time.

Handsworth Parrmaore drew 2-2 with a Chesterfield XI in their latest warm up game. New signing Jake Currie opened the scoring on five minutes with a superb overhead kick.

The Spireites quickly equalised through Luke Rawson then took the lead on 68 minutes thanks to Levi Amantchi.

However, the Ambers hit back to level the scores 13 minutes from time through a Jordan Turner header.
