The top of the table match between the Evo Stik Division One South’s second-placed Stocksbridge Park Steels and Coalville Town in third at Bracken Moor ended with Steels narrowly beaten 1-0 by a harshly awarded penalty

Steels made all the early running with and it took a good save from the visitors keeper Sean Boles to deny Richard Patterson his second goal in as many games. Jack Poulton then saw his shot deflected over the bar.

Coalville’s Alex Dean cut inside and David Reay got down to make a decent save at his near post. Coalville snatched the lead on the stroke of half-time through the penalty converted by Jake Woolley.

Stocksbridge almost responded immediately but somehow Bowles kept out Corey Gregory’s stinging drive.

Stocksbridge continued to look for the equaliser after the break. And they almost got it when Brad Grayson hit the upright from a free-kick. Then Lee Garside shot narrowly wide but Coalville held on amid a string of yellow cards to inflict Stocksbridge’s first home defeat of the season.

Frickley Athletic won 1-0 at Rushall Olympic where Jacob Hazel scored the decisive goal on nine minutes.

In the NCEL , Handsworth Parramore made it five league wins on the spin with a 1-0 victory at Barton Town OB. Colin Marrsion heading the only goal of the game on 49 minutes from a Simon Harrison cross.

Parkgate came from behind to win 3-2 at Armthorpe Welfare, while Dronfield Town went down 3-1 at Yorkshire Amateur.
