Stocksbridge Park Steels boss Gary Marrow breathed a sigh of relief following the goalless draw at AFC Emley. after what looked to be a serious injury to Chris Adams in the final minute.
The highly rated winger, signed from Eastwood Town, was carried off following a challenge. However, Adams was able to walk from the ground afterwards and should be fit for the opening league fixture at Marine but is likely to miss tomorrow’s friendly with Sheffield United (7.45).
A Sheffield FC XI cruised to a 5-0 win at Dronfield Town where debutant Craig Stoddart grabbed a hat-trick. Tom Richardson and Matt Roney also scored. Worsbrough Bridge Athletic gave a good account of themselves despite going down 2-1 at Baris NCEL Premier Division Arnold Town. They trailed 2-0 before Dan Cawley pulled one back on 47 minutes and were unlucky not have earned a draw.
Hallam drew 0-0 at Kimberley Town, while Staveley Miners Welfare playing their ninth pre-season game twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Evo-Stik Premier Division Worksop Town at Inkersall Road.
The visitors led through a 20th minute own-goal before Martin Foster levelled for the Miners on the half hour mark. Mark Roberts nudged Worksop ahead once more midway through the second half but Simon Barraclough struck 15 minutes from time to earn Staveley a draw.
Retford United had a fine 5-2 win at Evo-Stik League One South side Carlton Town. The hosts took a sixth minute lead but goals from Corey Nightingale and a Will Tomlinson brace saw Retford 3-1 up. Carlton pulled one back 14 minutes from time but two goals from Warren Hatfield on 81 and 83 minutes put paid to the home side’s comeback.
