Steels look to avenge double defeats by Welsh rivals

Have your say

Stocksbridge Park Steels, Staveley Miners Welfare, Frickley Athletic and Matlock Town will go in search of FA Cup glory at home this weekend.

They face Blue Square North opposition in the second qualifying round but need to upset the form book if they are to pick up the £4,500 prize money and edge closer to the first round proper.

Steels welcome Colwyn Bay to Bracken Moor. The visitors did the double over Steels last term winning 1-0 at Bracken Moor followed by a 4-2 victory in Wales in April.

Steels have won just twice in 14 outings this season but will take heart from a 2-2 midweek draw against promotion hopefuls Bradford Park Avenue.

Frickley Athletic take on Harrogate Town at Westfield Lane and could be boosted by the return of defender Michael Simpkins and winger Alex Callery from injury, but striker Jack Watts is suspended.

Staveley face a huge ask to reach the next round with Blue Square leaders Hyde the visitors. However, the Baris Premier Division leaders have all to gain and nothing to lose in a tie where they will start underdogs.

Matlock Town aim to make the most of the discontent at their visitors Hinckley United whose manager Dean Thomas transfer listed all his underperforming players this month. Buxton take on Rushall Olympic who won 2-1 at the Silverlands in the league in August. The Bucks have won the last two on the spin.

Sheffield FC are in league action at Coalville Town for the first league meeting between the two teams. Town, who have just signed ex Aston Villa star Julian Joachim, have lost the last two in the league but dumped Ilkeston out of the league Cup 2-1 at home on Tuesday.

Club lost top spot following last week’s 3-1 home defeat against Ilkeston that saw them slip to third. But Mark Shaw’s team, who bounced back to beat Wakefield 4-2 in the league Cup in mid-week, have won the last two on the road.
