Sheffield FC produced a battling display against the Evo-Stik Division One leaders Halesowen Town at Dronfield last night going down 3-2.
Halesowen edged in front on 20 minutes when Ben Haseley beat the offside trap to round Rob Poulter and place the ball into an empty net. And it should have been 2-0 just before the break but Haseley hooked his shot over.
Sheffield equalised four minutes into the second half. Andy Gascoigne chased the ball down before squaring to Mark Fereday to fire home.
Club suffered a blow when they lost Steve Woolley to injury on the hour with Matt Roney coming on in his more familiar midfield role after deputising in goal in the win over Chasetown.
Halesowen broke away to go 2-1 up on 67 minutes with Haseley slotting home his second. But Sheffield were back on level terms two minutes later when Ben Turner got away down the right to put over a cross that was diverted into the net, possibly with a defender getting the last touch.
Poulter pulled off two top drawer saves to keep the scores level but he could do nothing to prevent Halesowen going 3-2 in front as Curtis Tilt heading in from close range with 15 minutes remaining.
In the NCEL, Hallam went down 2-0 at Division One title chasers Shaw Lane Aquaforce,
Hallam went behind after three minutes to an excellent strike from Shane Kelsey. Shaw Lane had the Countrymen on the back foot in the early stages before Liam Morris forced the home keeper into a good save in a rare foray into the visitor’s area.
Shaw Lane continued to have the better of the exchanges and sealed the points on 76 minutes with Kelsey again on target after Hallam had two attempts to get the ball away.
Dronfield Town went down 2-1 at home against Rossington Main. Nathan Fraser headed the visitors into a 23rd minutes lead before scoring his second five minutes after the break with Nick Horsfield pulling one back.
Worsbrough Bridge Athletic beat Louth Town 2-0 at Park Road. Lee Garside opened the scoring with Adam Podmore adding the second.
