It was a weekend to forget with heavy defeats for both Stocksbridge Park Steels and Sheffield FC.

Steels crashed 5-1 at North Ferriby United as the home side went in front on seven minutes when goalkeeper Ben Scott fumbled a corner with Ryan Kendall claiming the last touch.

Kendall did score the scored on 24 minutes steering home from a through ball. Six minutes later Anthony Wilson’s close range header made it 3-0. Stocksbridge were given a glimmer of hope on 39 minutes when the on-loan Alec Denton found the top corner only for Ferriby to regain their three-goal cushion a minute later as Liam King pounced on a rebound.

Oliver Banks scored eight minutes from time to complete the rout.

Sheffield FC suffered a shock with a heavy 6-3 defeat at lowly Market Drayton Town. The home led 4-0 inside the opening 26 minutes.

Club pulled one back on 37 minutes through a Jamie Hadfield header from a Steve Woolley free-kick then on the stroke of half-time Richard Stirrup gave his side hope sweeping home a fine effort from the edge of the box.

Club’s Andy Gascoigne had a penalty saved just after the interval before Dorryl Proffit made it 5-2 on 54 minutes, and although Hadfield headed his second of the game to reduce the arrears 10 minutes from time. Town had the last word when Martyn Davies raced through for goal number six inside the final minute.

Elsewhere, two first half of Chris Wood penalties were enough to Frickley Athletic a 2-0 win at relegation rivals Kendall Town and a first away win in 14 games.

Worksop Town saw their play-off hopes dented with a 4-3 defeat at promotion rivals Witton Albion. The Tigers had led 3-1 at the break through an own goal, Tom Denton and Steve Towers cracking 30-yard effort but a stunning second half fight back saw Witton take the spoils.

Buxton beat Stafford Rangers 2-1 at home with second half goals from Steve Istead and Lee Morris, while Matlock Town drew 2-2 at Hednesford Town with two goals from Lewis McMahon.
