For the second successive weekend the Non-League programme was hit by the wintry blast as all the region’s teams suffered a white-out.

But as the snow quickly melted under rising temperatures aided by rain, clubs are now facing the threat of waterlogged pitches disrupting the midweek fixtures.

With their League Cup tie against Premier Division leaders North Ferriby United at the BT Local Business Stadium having already been postponed twice, concerned Sheffield FC boss Ian Whitehorne is hoping it will be third time lucky tomorrow.

“We are already behind with our league fixtures so we really do need to get the game played, said Whitehorne.

“We still have 20 league games to squeeze in on top of which we are still in the Sheffield Senior Cup so are already looking at the possibility of having to play games on a Tuesday and Thursday if things don’t improve.”

Sheffield had planned a clearing operation to rid the pitch of snow in a bid to get last Saturday’s home game against Carlton Town on but heavy overnight snowfall put paid to that.
