Lynam brace gives Town flier

It was not the start Hallam were looking for as Julian Watts’ promotion hopefuls slipped to a narrow 2-1 defeat at AFC Emley.

Ashley Flynn gave the hosts an 11th minute lead but the scores were level within two minutes, Danny Wiltshire heading home at the far post from a James Cook cross.

Hallam went close to going in front when Ben Cobley’s shot hit the bar but Emley went in front again three minutes before the break, somewhat against the run of play, Sean Hazeldon out-jumping the defence to nod in from a corner for what proved to be the winner.

Dinnington Town got off to a great start with a 3-1 victory at League One new-boys Clipstone Welfare. Ant Lynam on his return to the club hit a first half brace to send Town in 2-0 up at the break. The home side pulled one back within two minutes of the restart but Simon Mirfin added Dinnington third on 58 minutes.

Parkgate had to settle for a a goalless draw at Winterton Rangers but paid for missed chances. Nathan Forbes- Swindells fired straight at the keeper, while Brain Cusworth missed with three decent openings

Two goals from Liam McFadyen gave Worsbrough Bridge Athletic a 2-0 victory at Grimsby Borough in Division One.

Athersley Recreation kicked off with a 3-3 home draw against fellow newcomers Cleethorpes Town. Jason Bentley 2, and Jack Briscoescored for Athersley.

Rossington Main were beaten 1-0 at relegated Selby Town but it was harsh on Main who deserved at least a point with Brandon Fallon twice denied by superb saves.

Askern Villa were beaten 2-1 at home by Yorkshire Amateur despite a Gareth Dawson goal.

Leo Fortune-West saw his tenure at Armthorpe Welfare off to a losing start with a 2-1 home defeat against Long Eaton United. Welfare had led through an Andrew Allott header.

Maltby Main had Mark Clare sent off in the first half then saw Scott Mason miss a penalty as they lost 1-0 at home against Barton Town Old Boys.

Retford United got the defence of the Premier Division title up and running with a 3-0 win over Heanor Town 3-0 with goals by Adam Scott, Rob Sanderson and Jake Stannard.
