Late Haigh goal is cup clincher

A RICHARD Haigh header two minutes from the end of extra time saw Stocksbridge Park Steels squeeze into the Semi-Finals of the Sheffield Senior Cup with a 2-1 win at AFC Emley last night.

Just as it looked Stocksbridge would take a 1-0 lead into the break Emley equalised in the second minute of stoppage time with a fine strike from Liam Schofield that went in off the post.

In the other quarter-final tie, Staveley MW booked their place in the last four with a 2-0 win at Rossington Main. Ryan Damms scoring both goals inside the last four minutes.

Parkgate staged a second half fight back at Armthorpe Welfare coming from 4-2 down at the break to win 6-4 in the Baris NCEL League Cup third round. Jamie Smith made it 3-1 and Russ Eagles side were right back in the tie on 24 minutes when Craig Fletcher skipped past a defender to score with a great finish from just inside the box.

Five minutes later Armthorpe gave themselves some breathing space with a fourth goal through Leo Fortune West.

Three minutes into the second half James Smith nodded in to pull it back to 4-3 before parity was restored on 58 minutes by Sam Smith. Tom Roebuck took advantage of a slip in the home defence to fire Parkgate ahead on 71 minutes with Jamie Smith grabbed his hat-trick on 85 minutes from time to complete the comeback

Sheffield FC home clash against Lincoln United and Hallam against Bottesford Town at Sandygate were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
