SHEFFIELD FC missed out on the chance to go back to the top of Evo-Stik Division One after a 2-1 defeat at Newcastle Town.

Sheffield went behind just after the break following a scramble in the area. Club levelled just after the hour Callum Harrison’s 30-yard drive finding the net with the help of a deflection off Ashley Longstaff. However, Newcastle that snatched all-three points on 85 minutes when Sheffield conceded a free-kick which was headed home at the far post.

Frickley Athletic and Buxton share the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Westfield Lane.

In the NCEL Staveley Miners Welfare lost their unbeaten 10-match record with a 3-2 defeat at Arnold Town, while Maltby Main were beaten 3-0 at Premier Division leader Bridlington Town.

In Division One, Worsbrough Bridge Athletic were held at home 2-2 by Appleby Frodingham despite Shame Kelsey giving the home side the lead after just five seconds from 40 yards. The visitors were 2-1 up at the break and it needed an own-goal for the Briggers to ensure a point.

Rossington Main maintained their 100% away record with a 4-1 win at Worksop Parramore. Lee Holmes and Jordan Hatton both scoring twice with Karl Colley heading Parramore’s consolation goal.
