Handsworth up to fourth

Have your say

Handsworth extended their unbeaten to five games to go fourth in the Koolsport Division One following a 3-0 victory over neighbours Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at Olivers Mount last night.

Scott Bates broke the deadlock on 70 minutes with a finish inside the six-yard box. Worsbrough thought they had won a free-kick on the edge of the box when Adam Podmore was brought down. But the referee allowed play to continue and Handsworth broke up the other end to win a penalty that Dan Smith tucked away to extend the lead.

The hosts sealed the points with a third on 80 minutes with a fine solo effort from substitute Sam Smith.

Handsworth were denied a fourth when Worsbrough’s 16-year-old keeper Sam Andrew pulled off a fine late penalty save from Dan Smith.
