Hallam gain their revenge

HALLAM picked up a 1-0 victory at Dinnington Town, avenging a Senior Cup defeat at Phoenix Park earlier in the month.

The goal came 11 minutes into the second half when James Cook’s cross was flicked on by Liam Morris for Ben Cubley to sweep home for his first goal for the club. Dinnington feel they should have taken a point from the game. Liam Cartledge was denied by the crossbar, then Blues keeper Lewis Naylor made a terrific save from a Matt Smith header. Hallam might well have added to their score but Ben Kistell couldn’t make the most of a one on one situation with Town keeper Luke Hands.

Handsworth’s second home defeat in four days cost them top spot in Division One; they were beaten 1-0 by Rossington Main. The goal came on 22 minutes when from a Lee Holmes throw, Jason Stokes nipped in to lob the keeper.

Worksop Parramore lost 2-0 at Albion Sports, Jordan Missin and Ashley Flynn’s second half goals sending the hosts to the top of the table.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic were held to a 1-1 draw at Hemsworth MW. The visitors took a third minute lead through Jack Wakefield. But a minute before the break Shane Kelsey turned in a low cross at the back post and despite chances after the break Worsbrough couldn’t come up with the winner.

Askern Villa lost 2-1 at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.

Andrew Seed inadvertently gave the hosts a 32nd minute lead after a clearance rebounded off his back. Welfare levelled through Paul Sykes with Luke Smith hitting the winner 11 minutes later.

In the battle at the top end of the Premier table, Parkgate saw two points slip away at Green Lane as Staveley Miners Welfare came from two down to draw 2-2.

Nathan Forbes-Swindells gave the Steelmen a fifth minute lead with Ashley Worsfold doubling the advantage with a penalty.

Simon Barraclough pulled a goal back with Jordan Eagers equalising. The draw left Parkgate in sixth with Staveley one point and one place ahead.

Armthorpe Welfare romped to their biggest league win of the season with a 7-1 demolition of neighbours Maltby Main at Church Street
