Frickley earn battling draw at Hyde

Have your say

On loan Tom Davie, the former Hull City player, scored on his debut to earn Frickley Athletic a point over the Pennines as they came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at Hyde United.

It was Frickley’s second consecutive result of that nature - but the side has a stubborn streak and has not been beaten in their last five games. With Simon Lenighan having left for Rotherham United manager Karl Rose replaced him in central midfield with Ross Armstrong who is on a dual registration arrangement with North Ferriby United.

Davie, also from North Ferriby, came in for Brad Dockerty.

Both sides did their best to adapt to terrible conditions with both starting the game briskly but the Blues had the better of the opening half hour after Sebastian Malkowski had saved from Scott Spencer.

Tyler Williams and Brad Grayson were both sent clear but finished tamely whilst James Eyles’ brilliant strike on 44 minutes struck the crossbar. However, a minute later, Hyde took the lead when Ayrton Bevins was brought down inside the box by former Scunthorpe United midfielder Luke Hornsey and Spencer put the spot kick away with ease.

The Blues drew level in the 58th minute when Luke Hinsley’s left wing cross was put away from close range by Davie.

Another downpour slowed the game down but the game could have gone either way in the closing stages as Tyler Williams went close to winning it for the Blues whilst, likewise, Spencer missed for the hosts, with a draw being a reasonable outcome for both teams.
