Stocksbridge Park Steels picked up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at Stafford Rangers to move off the foot of the Premier Division table.

Michael Fish fired Steels in front on 17 minutes from just inside the area after Nicky Darker had won the ball near the halfway line.

Gavin Ellison was unlucky not to have doubled the lead when his close range effort smacked against the crossbar just before the break. Rangers should have levelled on the stroke of half-time when the unmarked Johnson failed to find the target with a header.

Fish was agonisingly close to a second at the start of the second period after rounding the keeper only to see his low shot from a tight angle cleared in front of the goal-line.

But with 17 minutes remaining the one goal lead proved a fragile one. From a corner, a scramble ensued that finished with Liam Walshe squeezing the ball home from six-yards to earn the hosts a share of the spoils.

Worksop Town also drew 1-1 against newly-promoted Witton Albion at Sandy Lane where a series of missed chances cost the Tigers maximum points.

Massiah McDonald forced the Albion keeper into a good save at the foot of the post then Leon Mettam hit a rising shot just over the bar.

The visitors went close with a free-kick that hit the Tigers woodwork before taking the lead somewhat against the run of play on 38 minutes. Shaun Tuck knocking home a rebound after Paul Bastock had made a fine save.

Worksop were back on level terms a minute before the break, Steve Towers hitting a low drive that hit the inside of the post before going in off a defender. The Tigers should have taken the lead just before the hour when Luke Sheils sent Mettam clear on goal only to shoot straight at the keeper.

Frickley Athletic are still searching for their first point of the season after Marine won 2-0 at Westfield Lane to inflict a third straight defeat on the Blues.

The visitors took a 47th minute lead through an Andy Fowler penalty awarded for handball before doubling their advantage on 71 minutes when Nick Rogan found the net from 25-yards.

Matlock Town were well beaten 4-0 at FC United of Manchester. Mike Norton nodded in a free-kick at the far post to give the hosts the lead four minutes before the break. Carlos Rocca doubled the advantage on 51 minutes cutting inside to hit a powerful shot beyond Gladiators keeper Jon Kennedy at full stretch.

Kyle Jacobs marked his 100th appearance for United with two well taken goals inside the last 15 minutes to seal the points.

Buxton picked up their first win of the season by beating Whitby Town 2-1.

Two goals inside the opening eight minutes from Marc Roberts and a Mark Reed penalty proving enough despite the visitors pulling one back a minute before the break.

Sheffield FC saw their FA Cup Preliminary Round tie against North West Counties side Abbey Hey postponed just before kick-off after a heavy downpour left the pitch at the BT Local Business Stadium waterlogged. The two teams will try again this Wednesday, Kick-off 7.45.
