Sue Smith bagged a brace to help steer the Belles towards victory and a dramatic final day showdown with Sunderland for the FAWSL2 title.
The league championship and promotion are at stake on Sunday following Doncaster’s 2-0 victory over Yeovil Town Ladies yesterday.
The Belles sit two points behind league leaders Sunderland with the pair set to finish their seasons with away ties against London Bees and Millwall respectively.
Smith grabbed her first goal from close range after 38 minutes before finding the top corner from 25-yards to give the Belles a cushion.
Courtney Sweetman-Kirk forced Rachel Simkin into an early save as the Belles struggled to find a breakthrough.
But their persistence paid off on 38 minutes when Kasia Lipka burst forward to tee-up Jess Sigsworth and despite a great stop from Simkin, the Yeovil ‘keeper couldn’t prevent Smith smashing the ball home from the rebound.
After the break, Smith added her second of the game is superb fashion.
Bethany England laid the ball off and Smith curled the ball into the top corner away from the reach of Simkin.
However, it wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline suggests with the visitors troubling the home defence on a number of occasions.
Sarah Wiltshire went agonisingly close to pulling one back as the visitors battled to the end but after rounding Nicola Hobbs, her effort from the angle came back off the post.
Ellen Curson then brought the best out of Hobbs when she saw a volley saved as the Belles held firm for the win.
